Employment Law Update, Labour developments and the sexual harassment duty

Date/Time
Date(s) - 19/11/2024
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

BHETA is pleased to announce we will be hosting a webinar on Tuesday 19th November at 2pm, presented by Alice Brackenridge, Employment Law Adviser.

2024 has introduced significant changes to employment law, and with a recent change in government, further changes are on the horizon.

Join WorkNest as we provide a progress report on Labour’s employment-related pledges and explore recent legislation which introduces a statutory duty on employers to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace.

What’s on the agenda?

The new Labour government has now been in office for over 100 days. Having set out ambitious plans for employment law, this informative webinar will provide a timely update, clarifying what employers actually need to have on their radar, what seems to have been sidelined, and how all of this could impact your organisation.

In addition, amidst all the talk around the new government’s plans, in October there is another important change in employment law. As of 26 October 2024, employers have a new duty to prevent sexual harassment at work, based on the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s guidance. It’s essential for employers to understand and comply with the new duty to safeguard employees and avoid liability.

 We will cover:

  • Labour’s Plan to Make Work Pay: With a long list of potential employment law reforms, we’ll pinpoint key proposals and what they could mean for employers. Get an update on prominent topics such as expanding day one rights, banning “exploitative” zero-hour contracts, and outlawing fire and re-hire.
  • Sexual harassment in the workplace: Receive a recap of current harassment laws and learn what’s required to comply with the new statutory duty, including current harassment laws, new duties for employers and HR and “reasonable steps” you can take as an employer and the possible consequences of falling short.
  • Q&A: If you have a specific query about this topic that you would like our host to answer, submit it when signing up – we’ll address as many as we can at the end of the session.
