The Very Group, parent company of Very and Littlewoods, has confirmed that Carlyle, the US-based global investment firm, has become its controlling shareholder. The announcement brings an end to the Barclay family’s 20-year involvement with the business. International media group IMI will remain a significant stakeholder.
According to The Very Group, the transaction strengthens the company’s capital base and provides greater financial flexibility to support its long-term growth strategy. The business said the change reflects the continued confidence that both Carlyle and IMI have shown since first investing in 2021.
The news follows The Very Group’s recent full-year results, which reported a 15.9% uplift in adjusted EBITDA to £307.1 million.
Chief executive Robbie Feather said: “This marks an important milestone for The Very Group as we move into an exciting new phase of growth. We are delighted to continue to partner with Carlyle and IMI. Their continued backing provides us with a stronger foundation to execute our strategy, increase investment in technology and the customer experience, and build on the momentum across the business. I’d like to thank the Barclay family for their stewardship and contribution to the company over the past two decades.”
