Our Export Committee, formed in June 2017, draws on the knowledge of some of BHETA’s most experienced exporters to forge working relationships with organisations that can offer the greatest support and export opportunities to BHETA members.
Together with the committee, BHETA has established relationships with international trading authorities, overseas exhibition organisers, Chambers of Commerce and the Department for Business & Trade.
BHETA members can access a dedicated FREE Helpline and business support service for most international trade questions, covering areas such as Export Support, Import Support, Customs Compliance Support, Excise, Customs Computer Systems, UK VAT, Payment Methods and Export Development.
All BHETA members are also members of HIMA, the Home Improvement Manufacturers Association, which brings togethers home improvement suppliers from around the globe. Through this membership, BHETA members receive discounts on global research reports. Perfect for formulating strategy and targeting, one report details global trends as they affect the European home improvement market, and the second is a directory of 455 home improvement retailers around the world with a page devoted to each one.
BHETA members also receive discounts for tickets to the Global DIY Summit which takes place annually in a European city, and is an excellent place to do international business, packed as it is with retail networking opportunities, advice and support, information, contacts, and opportunities for tours of top DIY and garden retail stores. The Summit usually has over 1,000 delegates from over 50 countries including around 300 of the top DIY and garden retailers. In 2023, BHETA had a significant presence there both in terms of association personnel and member companies from the DIY sector. In fact, of the 26 event sponsors, twenty were part of BHETA in 2023.
BHETA encourages members to attend international exhibitions which is a great way to grow your international business. DIY and garden exhibitions such as the National Hardware Show in Las Vegas in March, and Eisenwarenmesse International Hardware Fair in Cologne, bi-annually in March are very popular. Within housewares & small electricals, Ambiente in Frankfurt in February and the Inspired Home Show in Chicago in March are very popular. BHETA are part of the Export Partners Trade Association and we regularly put forward the case to the UK Government for the support required to help the company increase its share of global trade.

Department for Business & Trade
The Department for Business & Trade (DIT) works with over 100 Trade Challenge Partners and has a collective membership of around 70,000.
Export events
BHETA works closely with the DBT and represents and supports its members to help increase exports and UK businesses opportunities overseas.
BHETA runs regular export forums that combine case studies from BHETA’s many successful exporting members with advice from the DBT and International Chambers of Commerce.
Aimed at companies already down the track with export, through to those exploring the opportunities for the first time, the events cover opportunities for overseas missions, international shows, and grant availability.
