CDS Superstores, the parent company of The Range and Wilko, is set to launch a wave of revamped retail outlets this May, marking a new chapter in its expansion strategy. The company has confirmed that five new-format superstores will open their doors on 9 May, located in Santry, Woodside Park, Sheffield, Tiverton, and Cookstown. These openings come as part of a broader effort to revitalize the legacy of Homebase, the once-prominent DIY chain that entered administration last year.
CDS Superstores acquired the Homebase brand and 70 of its former locations following the collapse, with plans to relaunch 45 of them under The Range banner. The new superstores will showcase a hybrid retail concept, blending The Range’s diverse home, leisure, and garden offerings with Homebase’s long-standing expertise in home improvement. A central feature of the revamped stores will be the introduction of “Garden Centres by Homebase,” aimed at enhancing the garden and outdoor living segment. This latest rollout signals CDS’s commitment to rejuvenating retail spaces and tapping into evolving consumer preferences for multi-purpose, experience-driven shopping environments.
The chief executive of CDS Superstores, Alex Simpkin, commented: “We’re fully committed to retaining the best of Homebase’s heritage while introducing the broader product range and value that customers expect from us as The Range.
“While those Homebase stores acquired by CDS will continue to trade throughout the transition period, we’re focused on ensuring a seamless transfer of these locations into our new store format, with fifteen launches confirmed for this year so far."
“This latest development underscores CDS Superstores’ commitment to revitalising the retail landscape by blending trusted brands, preserving jobs and enhancing local economies.”
