BHETA is to hold another of its international trade webinars on Friday 23rd February at 10am. This one will look at the implications of EU Regulation 2023/988 which will be enforced from December 2024, and which aims to ensure that all non-food products are safe, whether sold online or offline. The speaker is Tim Hiscock, International Trade Advisor from Strong and Herd LLP.The most significant change, that all exporters to the EU should be aware of, is that from December all products entering the EU must have an economic operator in the EU responsible for safety issues. While the law does not affect products already covered by other safety rules, such as CE marked products, it does mean that in effect, suppliers of goods to the EU that do not carry the CE mark and are not covered by other safety legislation must act to comply with the new requirements by having an EU address capable of providing customer service support.Regulation 2023/988 also:• brings together conditions for online and offline sales• steps up the enforcement powers of national governments• introduces new requirements on product recalls. This webinar will outline the actions suppliers need to take and will include Q&A.Formed in 1995, Strong & Herd™ LLP is a ‘one-stop-shop’ for international trade queries, export and/or import training, export support, and customs compliance requirements. The event is for BHETA members. Non-members who are interested in experiencing a BHETA event and are thinking of joining the association, are also welcome to have a ‘taster session,’ on the condition they are happy to have a membership chat with the relevant sector manager.BHETA’s Marketing Director, Steve Richardson commented, “Regulation 2023/988 has big implications for exporters into the EU, particularly smaller suppliers, so it’s good that BHETA can advise. Strong & Herd is one of BHETA’s business services providers and is an excellent source of information and advice on all aspects of international trade.”The webinar will not be recorded, so affected suppliers are urged to register for the event via www.bheta.co.uk or by contacting Sally in Member Services on sjg@bheta.co.uk.
