Coronavirus: Government announce emergency cash to help businesses
On Friday, Chancellor Rishi Sunak unveiled an "unprecedented" set of financial measures to support the UK economy through the coronavirus pandemic. These included:
- £330bn in loans will be available from this week to help businesses pay for supplies, rent & salaries
- Extension of business rates relief
- Government grants to cover 80% of employees salaries of retained workers via the HMRC
- Business Interruption Loans will be interest free for 12 months
- VAT payments deferred to next quarter
- Three month mortgage holidays for people in financial difficulty as a result of the virus
- £1bn of support for renters through the Local Housing Allowance
