Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging is coming…
What does this mean for your business?
The Government has announced a consultation to reform the packaging waste regulations and intends to introduce a new set of measures called Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). These proposed new measures WILL result in a rise in costs for your business.
In addition to the proposed Plastic Packaging Tax, the EPR seeks to make obligated companies (brand owners & importers) pay for the full net cost of recycling packaging when it reaches the end of its life.
Government have estimated that the cost to obligated companies will be approximately £2.7 billion per annum. The current packaging waste regulations cost approximately £250m per annum, this means that your costs could rise by a factor of TEN!
To find out in detail about the wider implications of the Governments proposals and to look at some of the pertinent points of the consultation, Paul Van Danzig from BHETA’s packaging compliance partner; Wastepack, isholding a webinar for BHETA members on Tuesday 11th May at 2:30pm.
This is a great opportunity for you to gather your thoughts before responding to the consultation.
Following the 30 minute webinar, there will be a Q&A session to enable you to pose questions directly to Paul.
