BHETA Forum highlights Housewares Opportunities
A packed house of more than eighty members at BHETA’s latest networking forum on November 9th enjoyed presentations from a line-up of speakers invited to highlight opportunities in housewares and stimulate debate on some very topical issues.

Retail Viewpoint – Kingfisher
While overall UK sales increased to £1,274m, the dichotomous results at Kingfisher UK continue with B&Q sales down 2.8% to £875m amid continued disruption from the ‘ONE Kingfisher’ transformation plan. Meanwhile, Screwfix continued to record impressive double-digit growth, increasing 16.6% on last year to bring total sales to £399m.

Retail Viewpoint – Ikea
IKEA’s irresistible march continues as it achieves its sixth consecutive year of sales growth, reaching £1.8bn for the 12 months to 31 August 2017. Online drove this growth, where sales were up 10%. This followed a website relaunch in August 2016, which optimised the site for different platforms, and in May 2017, the launch of click & collect to IKEA Order and Collection Points.

Success of BHETA’s Slovenia Export visit sets precedent for future trade missions
BHETA’s export mission to Ljubljana in Slovenia proved such a success that it is to form the model for similar future events, including an export visit to Romania is April 2018. The event, which took place 8-10 October included a networking conference, a ‘Meet the Buyer’ event and a tour of key retail stores.
